My first morning being employed at the cannabis dispensary

The first morning at my current job is consistently nerve-wracking for me.

I have gone through enough jobs in my life that I should be used to it at this point, however I’m not.

Even when I am excited about the current job, I feel distraught when I first start. This was consistent for the cannabis dispensary as well. I applied for this job six months ago, and only now have been asked to join the team. At any other job I would calm my nerves by smoking some cannabis before I went in, but I couldn’t do that with this job. One of the really strict rules at the cannabis dispensary is to not be high at work. It is expected that all employees smoke cannabis properly – or else why would you want to labor here? – however, being stoned on the job is a substantial no-no. The director Jenny explained to me that regardless of the product my friend and I sell, that the cannabis dispensary is a professional operation, and has to be treated with respect. Many people rely on this contractor to get the medical cannabis they need to improve their lives, then yes the majority of our clients just want recreational cannabis to have some fun. But my close friend and I also have cancer patients, soldiers with PTSD, and other folks who need cannabis as medicine. For this reason all of the budtenders have to be clean and sober while on shift. When my friend and I are off the clock, then I can use that big and fat employee discount and get as much cannabis as my friend and I want.
